Aerodynamic Interaction of Two Parachutes

CDT Eric Thornburg, USMA

Project Supervisors:
Dr. Tomoyasu Nonoshita, Vinod Kumar, T*AFSM
Dr. Keith Stein, US Army Natick Solider Center, T*AFSM

Principal Investigator:
Professor Tayfun E. Tezduyar, T*AFSM

This project is part of a research effort by the T*AFSM in collaboration with US Army Natick Soldier Center. The goal in this project is to simulate the aerodynamic interaction between two parachutes, as a function of the horizontal distance between the parachutes.

Figure 2. The velocity vectors for the cases when the parachutes are on top of each other, and when they are 1.0, 2.0, and 5.0 radii apart.
