AHPCRC Bulletin: Summer 1995 - Volume 5 Number 3Basic Research in the National Defense: University Contributions to PreparednessPaul Muzio (AHPCRC-MSCI)The Army High Performance Computing Research Center participated in a reception/exhibit whose theme was Basic Research in the National Defense: University Contributions of Preparedness for members of Congress and Congressional staffers. The purpose of the reception/exhibit was to inform members of Congress of the importance of university basic research to US economic growth and defense research and technology. The reception/exhibit was organized by the Association of American Universities in conjunction with the Congressional Institute for the Future (CIF). The CIF is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) educational organization that advances research and education about emerging issues. The keynote address was given by Anita Jones, Director, Defense Research and Engineering.The AHPCRC display at the reception/exhibit included demonstrations of the results of Center research projects in flow simulation, manufacturing technology and materials science, and environmental modeling. Richard Chait, Director, Research and Laboratory Management, and Walter Sturek, Army Research Laboratory, represented the Army at the AHPCRC booth. Tayfun Tezduyar, AHPCRC Director, Yaw Yeboah, Director, Research Center-Clark Atlanta University, and Abdul Mohamed, Dean, School of Science and Technology, Jackson State University, represented the AHPCRC as well as their respective institutions. In addition to the AHPCRC partner universities, demonstrations and exhibits were also provided by seventeen other leading research universities. The reception/exhibit was held on Monday, May 22, 1995, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Cannon House Caucus Room. |
