Aerodynamics of a Parachute Crossing the Wake of an Aircraft

Principal Investigator: This project is part of a greater research effort by the T*AFSM on airdrop systems. Our research on airdrop systems involves extensive collaborations with US Natick Soldier Center and NASA Johnson Space Center. The T*AFSM is working on developing the methods and tools needed to simulate the effect of unsteady wake flow on a paratrooper jumping out of a trailing aircraft and crossing the wake of the leading aircraft. In this project, Mr. McCune and Mr. Kumar were helped by Dr. Yasuo Osawa, at that time a PhD student supervised by Tezduyar.
